The chateaux of Seine et Marne

- Palace of Vaux-le-Vicomte
Vaux-le-Vicomte is a 17th century masterpiece that combines the genius of three highly-talented artists brought together by Nicolas Fouquet – the architect, Louis le Vau, the painter-decorator, Charles le Brun and the landscape gardener, André le Nôtre – who made this palace a showcase of French art. The palace is about twenty minutes away from Le Bois du Lys, and is open all year round, hosting events such as candle-lit tours, and the "Vaux-le-Vicomte fête Noël" Christmas extravaganza.

- Palace of Fontainebleau
The Palace of Fontainebleau is one of the visits that anyone coming to the Ile de France region should have on their ‘to-do’ list. The Palace of Fontainebleau has played host to all the important sovereigns in France since the 12th century – Saint Louis, Philippe le Bel, Louis XIII and even Napoleon 1st. The estate is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Renovation work has been underway on the palace for a number of years. It is open to the public all year round with a variety of tour options. Entry to part of the gardens is free of charge.
Go to the www.musee-chateau-fontainebleau.fr website for details about opening times and admission fees.

- Blandy-les-Tours Fortress
The fortress is one of the last vestiges of medieval architecture in the Ile de France and has been renovated throughout since it was acquired by local General Council (77) in 1992. It reopened to the public in September 2007.
It is a typical example of a 13th century fortress that like many others at the end of the 16th century was given a new life by being transformed into a stately home. The castle walls form an irregular hexagonal enclosure flanked by round turrets and an imposing keep rising 35 metres high.
It is open all year round and serves as the backcloth for a busy cultural programme from March to October offering a performance every Sunday, exhibitions, outdoor concerts, etc...
